Adoption / Rescue Information  

Thank you for considering adopting a homeless reptile, or making a serious attempt to place your own reptile that, for whatever reason, you feel you cannot continue to house.

If you do not live in the Sacramento Metropolitan Area, to find a reptile rescue facility or herp society closer to you, please visit www.anapsid.org and click on societies/rescues to find one in your area.  We are generally swamped with requests to place animals and have few or no homes waiting to adopt an animal.

We expect that a prospective adopter will be able to answer basic questions about the housing, light, heat, diet and supplements needed to care successfully for the type of animal requested. We may ask to interview adopters in person and view the premises in which they plan to care for the animal.

If you would like to consider adopting a reptile or want advice about a particular type of reptile, please choose the proper person to contact from the following list based on the type of animal you are interested in adopting. Please be specific about what kind of reptile you're looking for; whether you have preferences about its age, size, gender or temperament; and whether you will accept a rescue animal that is not in perfect condition. We cannot assist effectively with requests like, "I want a snake under 8 feet long", or "I want a lizard that is not an iguana." (Yes, we have received calls like that.)

If you want to adopt or relinquish a *TURTLE or TORTOISE*, please contact the Sacramento Turtle and Tortoise Club.

For any other type of reptile, please contact any of the above individuals and they will try to find someone knowledgeable in the species to help you. Please note that we no longer do iguana rescue.
